WIM Presents Next 50 in Global Tech: Healthcare
COVID-19 and China
WIM G50 Healthcare

On December 9-11, 2020, EqualOcean will host this year's World Innovators Meet (WIM). WIM2020 will take on a bolder stance and adopt a more global outlook by taking the form of an online conference that will be streamed simultaneously in all countries and regions that champion the realm of technology and innovation. D
uring the World Innovators Meet, the WIM Committee will release the annual blockbuster WIA list, the World Innovation Awards, based on our annual industry and investment research findings, together with a series of research reports.

During COVID-19, many healthcare-related companies' stock prices increased dramatically, such as Intco Medical Technology, Shijiazhuang Yiling and Top Glove Corporation Bhd. The main reason was that they were able to provide the goods which helped people protect themselves from COVID-19. However, these companies' stocks will not likely increase rapidly in the long term. Nowadays, all people are trying their best to block further transmissions of COVID-19, and COVID-19 cases are starting to drop in some regions, especially in China. People may not need too many goods to prevent COVID-19 in the future.

When people are able to pay less attention to COVID-19, what kind of company in the healthcare industry will be the new leader worldwide?

If we consider the long term, instead of only considering COVID-19's impact, and look at some start-up companies from a COVID-19-free perspective.  We will find that many people are still creating new insights and technologies in Digital Health, Medical Devices, Biotech & Pharma and Health Care Services areas.

For instance, medical e-commerce platform Miaoshou Doctor received 500 million yuan in C+ round financing in January 2020, and 600 million yuan in D round financing in June; Burning Rock Biotech, a tumor genetic testing company, was listed on the Nasdaq in June 2020. The issue price was US$16.5, and the opening transaction rose by more than 40%; the innovative drug research and development service CRO technology platform Yaoyanshe completed two consecutive C+ and D rounds of financing in August 2020, with total financing of more than 600 million yuan.

Breakthroughs in technological innovation for empowering the medical industry are why these companies mentioned above have received continuous, massive injections of capital. Looking for new industry innovators is also the mission of the WIM Committee. At the 2019 World Innovators meet, WIM Committee screened 7,529 start-ups in the early stage of investment worldwide and compiled the 2019 Global ‘Next global 50: healthcare industry’ list of companies. The companies mentioned above – Burning Stone Biotech, Yaoyanshe, and Maoshou Doctor – were all included in the 2019 list.

In 2020, the WIM Committee will continue to update this list. The ‘Next Global Tech 50: Healthcare’ report and list will be released at the 2020 World Innovator Meet (WIM) in December 2020.

(This list will be based on the WIM committee's long-term research on the healthcare industry, based on visiting companies, investors, industry experts, and information collected from public compliance channels. It only provides information and does not constitute any investment basis.)

This report will look through the current status and hot topics of the global healthcare industry in 2020 and focus on the global medical health industry's early investment stage companies that integrate medical and technology start-ups.

The list will be formed of 50 start-up companies worldwide by comparing their comprehensive capabilities. Companies' selection criteria are currently in the mid-term development stage within a certain number of years of establishment.

The ‘post-COVID-19 era’ will come, and the healthcare industry will also undergo tremendous changes. Start-ups that can persist and innovate during this change are likely to shake the industry landscape in the near future.
